Constitution Review: “Nigeria’s unity is sacrosanct” – Niger State Governor

The Niger State Governor in North Central Nigeria, Abubakar Sani Bello says the unity and indivisibility of Nigeria remain sacrosanct.
The Governor disclosed this at the stakeholders meeting on the Niger State position on 1999 constitution review in Minna the Niger State Capital.
Abubakar Sani Bello who was represented by his Deputy, Ahmed Mohammed Ketso, further revealed that no matter the nature of federalism agitation in the country, the unity of the country must not be compromised.
“In every federal system, restructuring is a continuous process through legislative and other procedures accepted by the citizens.“
The Niger State Governor further stressed that the stakeholders meeting is preparatory to the North Central Zonal meeting of the States of Niger, Kogi, Kwara and FCT, Abuja slated to hold in Minna from 26th to 27th May 2021.
He reminded the participants that the meeting is aimed at bringing up as well as harmonizing Niger State position regarding the constitutional amendment.
The Chairman of the occasion, Honourable Abubakar Bawa Bwari, former Minister of Solid Minerals enjoined the stakeholders to contribute positively for the betterment of the people of the State and Nigerians in general.
Bawa Bwari urged Nigerians to take the issue of constitution review with the seriousness with a view to achieving the set objectives and goals.
The Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Ahmed Ibrahim Matane, also stated that the constitution review is timely as it will give Nigerians a direction in its democratic growth.
The SSG hinted that in every federal system, restructuring is a continuous process through legislative and other procedures accepted by the citizens.
“Today’s event is about nation-building, therefore we have the opportunity to write our names in gold in whatever we are going to do here,“ added Matane
Matane listed the thematic areas to discuss by the stakeholders to include devolution of powers, creation of States, resource control, federal character, electoral matters, traditional rulers and revenue allocation formula.
Others are fiscal federalism, immunity clause, judiciary, executive, residency and indigene provisions among several others.
