Kaduna State government says all schools should remain closed until an exact date for resumption is announced.
However, goverment has granted permission to Kaduna Polytechnic and the National Open University who both requested to reopen for students to write semester exams only.
The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education, Mrs Phoebe Sukai Yayi stated these at a news briefing in Kaduna.
Mrs Phoebe mentioned that, it became necessary to address newsmen in order to clear the air on school resumption dates.
According to her, though the Federal government states that schools can resume on Monday, the 18th of January 2021, the situation in Kaduna is different as goverment records spike in Covid-19 cases daily.
“We want to make it categorical clear that Kaduna State government is yet to fix a date for resumption to schools. In as much as the Federal government has declared 18 January as date for resumption, Kaduna is yet to declare a date for resumption”.
Mrs Phoebe pointed out that, government was still monitoring the situation and promised to make pronouncement regarding that in due course.
The Permanent Secretary gave the assurance that, the Ministry will hold stakeholders meeting on Education in the State alongside the Ministry of Health with a view to take position on how to advice government accordingly.
Mrs Phoebe also advised all the State and Federal Institutions in Kaduna State to put on hold their activities until government comes up with clear date for resumption.
