The wife of the Cross River State governor, Reverend Eyoanwan Otu has been presented with an award in recognition of her humanitarian services.
The Mayor of New York City in the United States of America, Mr. Eric Adams presented the ‘Key to the City of New York’ to Mrs. Otu at a dinner held in New York.
The Key, which is the traditional symbol of highest recognition in the City Council, is presented to deserving recipients and global changemakers.
In the same vein, the New York Senate through Senator Kelvin Parker honoured Reverend Otu for her contributions to uplifting the conditions of People Living With Disabilities (PLWDs).
According to Parker, “It is the belief of the legislative body (New York Senate) that when individuals accomplish such noble deeds like Reverend Otu’s, and their aims and accomplishments are brought to the attention of the US Senate, it is right to publicly proclaim and commend those individuals for the edification and emulation of others.”
Besides the two awards, a third one “a Proclamation of Honor” was presented to the wife of the Cross River State governor by the U. S. Congress through Congresswoman, Yvette Clarke in recognition of “her many contributions and positive impacts in the global community.”
Motivation for hard work
Responding to the gestures, the wife of the governor, who was represented by the Special Adviser, Programmes, Projects and Events, Dr. Inyang Asibong, expressed appreciation to the organizers of the dinner in her honour.
Otu described the accolades as “the greatest motivation to do more for humanity and the recognition of hard work.”
The gala, which was attended by over 300 people, including dignitaries from the United States, West Africa and the Caribbean featured the presentation of the 2023 Joe Biden Lifetime Achievement Award to Ambassador Arit Fuller for her outstanding humanitarian qualities through the years.
