The Nigerian Military has vowed to curb losses from pipeline vandalism and crude oil theft in the country.
Gen. Lucky Irabor, the Chief of Defence Staff, stated this while in the oil-rich city of PortHarcourt, Southern Nigeria, on the directives of Nigeria’s President Muhammadu Buhari to contain the spate of pipeline vandalism and associated crude oil losses.
Gen. Irabor, who was also in the company of the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Hon. Timipre Sylva and the Group Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Resources (NNPC), Mallam Mele Kolo Kyari, said that the Military will deploy a different and new strategy and drive against the criminals and their sponsors.
“Actually, it is a value chain. Our drive is to look at the rungs of the ladder, the chain within the oil and gas stream.
“We are not just zeroing in on the actual criminals, but also those who are supporting and sponsoring them. Those are the ones we will go after.
“This is not the forum for me to tell you what the entire gamut of strategy will be in reining them in, but I can assure you that there’s going to be a huge difference to the good of the State,” he assured.
