Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel has confirmed that Havana held talks with the United States, marking the first official acknowledgment of discussions with the administration of Donald Trump.

Díaz-Canel said the talks were aimed at resolving bilateral differences through dialogue, though he gave no details.

The White House said the discussions, led by Secretary of State Marco Rubio, are focused on pushing major changes in Cuba’s policies.

U.S. officials also disclosed that Rubio met privately in February with a relative of former Cuban leader Raúl Castro during a regional meeting in the Caribbean.

The development comes as Cuba faces a worsening economic and energy crisis, with relations between both countries remaining largely strained despite ongoing contacts.
