Davnocth National Tennis Open serves off in Abuja

Tennis Fans in Abuja and its environ are right now enjoying thrilling matches as the second edition of the Davnocth National Open Championship serves off at the Tennis Centre, Package B of the Moshood Abiola Stadium.

The tournament which will also serve as another test for the home-based tennis players will see over hundred of them contesting in various categories, including in wheelchair men and women of the tournament.

Addressing a press conference in Abuja on Friday, the President of the Nigeria Tennis Federation, Dayo Akindoju said the tournament which will last till May 14, 2022 will experience improved quality of play and organizational standard in line with global best practices.

This tournament has discovered many players that have represented Nigeria at international levels, right now some are in Togo representing Nigeria. So this edition promises the best of technical and tactical exhibitions, thereby showcasing the improving standard of the game in Nigeria” He said.

He further commended the sponsors Davnotch Nigeria Limited for initiating and sustaining the sponsorship, which will enhance grassroots development of the sport and by extension, using sports generally as a tool for uplifting the socio-economic standard of the society.

Also speaking at the briefing, representative of Davnotch Nigeria Limited, Mr Emmanuel Ochei, said the tournament would help to unearth new talents that will be celebrated in the world.

Mr. Ochei said the tournament is borne out of Devnotch desire to engage the youth for a better life amid the current challenges facing the country.

We have a lot of talents in this country but they don’t have the finances to go further. On our part, we will continue to sponsor the tournament for Nigeria to discover for hidden talents the will represent the country at the international level” He said.

According to the tournament factsheet, players are expected to compete for the top prize in six categories comprises of men and women singles, men and women doubles and wheelchair men and women singles.
