Debutants Sporting Lagos Begin NPFL Campaign With Victory

Debutants Sporting Lagos FC started its 2023/2024 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) campaign off to a flying start after a 2-0 victory against visitors Gombe United FC on Monday, at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena in Lagos State.

Rivio Ayemwenre opened the scoring for Sporting after heading the ball into the net in the 42nd minute when he was left unmarked in the box. Clement Nantuam extended the lead for the home side after the ball found the back of the net after a brilliant piece of play by Sporting Lagos.

Then a defensive error by Sporting Lagos FC’s captain cost his side a penalty after the goalkeeper Christian Nwoke was adjudged to have fouled on-rushing Gombe United FC’s player.

However, Mojeeb Odufeso missed a consolation goal for Gombe United late in the second half when the fired the ball against the post as the match finished 2-0 in favour of Sporting Lagos.
