The Minister of Defence Major General Bashir Magashi (rtd) has attributed the successes recorded in the various theatres of Military Operations in parts of the country to the support of the Commander-in- Chief of the Armed Forces of Nigeria, President Muhammadu Buhari.
General Magashi stated this in Sokoto, at the opening ceremony of the 2022 Chief of Army Staff Annual Conference while giving his remarks at the conference.
He said the support of President Buhari to the Military especially to the Nigerian Army has improved the Fire Power of the Service which has accounted for the tremendous operational achievements in curtailing the criminal activities in the country.
While commending the Leadership of the Nigerian Army under the Chief of Army Staff Lieutenant General Farouk Yahaya, he tasked the Officers and personnel to remain Professional and apolitical especially as the 2023 elections draws nearer.
The Governor of Sokoto State, Aminu Tambuwal appreciated the Leadership of the Nigerian Army for the hosting right accorded Sokoto for the conference which he said has greatly improved the internal security architecture within his area of responsibility.
Tambuwal extolled the tireless efforts of the Nigerian Army and other security agencies towards ensuring peace and security in Sokoto state while commending their resolve and collective contribution to the improved security in North West Nigeria and other regions.
The Chief of Army Staff Lieutenant General Farouk Yahaya in a remark said the theme of the conference : “Building a Professional Nigerian Army for the Twenty- first Century Security Environment” is carefully chosen to meet contemporary challenges
General Yahaya said the annual conference provides a platform to take stock of the performance, score-card of the Nigerian Army and to galvernise efforts of the service in the right direction to totally defeat the adversaries while working in collaboration with other Services.
He acknowledged that Nigerian Army has received tremendous support from the President, which has boosted the capability of the NA and the Armed Forces in general.
He pointed out that year 2022 has been eventful for the Nigerian Army, particularly in all theatres of operations, where successes have been progressively recorded.
The Conference which was declared opened by the Special Guest of Honour, President Muhammadu Buhari featured presentation of the Nigerian Army recognition awards to six distinguished Nigerians including the Former Chief of Army Staff Lieutenant General Tukur Yusuf Buratai for the unprecedented transformational achievements of the Service under his watch.
Other recipients were Alhaji Abdul Samad Isyaku Rabiu, Chairman BUA Group, Aliko Dangote Chairman Dangote Group, Col Hameed Ali (Rtd) Comptroller General Nigerian Customs Service, Dr Jim Ovia Chairman Zenith Bank, Tony Elumelu Founder Tony Foundation.
