Defence Minister tasks Service Chiefs on peace

The Minister of Defence, Retired Major General Bashir Magashi has charged the Chief of Defence Staff and Service Chiefs not to relent in their efforts at ensuring peace in the country even in the face of prevalent challenges.

General Magashi gave the charge in his address to participants at this year’s edition of the Chief of Army Staff Conference taking place at the Muhammadu Buhari Military Cantonment Giri, Abuja.

He pointed out that the nation is indebted to the heroes that ensure the peaceful state of the country while stressing that the armed forces of Nigeria and the Nigerian Army in particular has been in the forefront of the war against insurgency and the efforts to bring back Internally Displaced Persons in the North East as well as the fighting banditry in the North West and other operations across the country.

 “This conference will generate the needed documents to further strengthen the ongoing war against insurgency and other criminalities. I assure Mr. President of the Ministry of Defence’ continues judicious use of the funds available,” he said.

The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Tukur in his welcome address said since its establishment in 2017 the Army Cyber Warfare Command  has played a crucial role in the fight against insurgency and other criminalities in the country.

General Buratai also expressed gratitude to the president for his invaluable support to the armed forces. The COAS also assured the president of the armed forces’ continued support while pledging total loyalty on behalf of the officers and men of the Nigerian Army.
