The Chairman, Senate Committee on Federal Character, Senator Danjuma Laah, has urged Nigerians to tolerate one another and imbibe the spirit of unity as the country marks this year’s Democracy Day.
The Senator made the call in his message to commemorate the day in Abuja, Nigeria’s Capital.
Senator Laah, who is representing Kaduna South Senatorial District also reiterated the need for Nigerians to tolerate one another irrespective of ethnicity, religion and political affiliations.
According to him “We are all stakeholders in this country called Nigeria hence, urge everybody in this country should tolerate one another and allow peace to reign in our country.”
Speaking on insecurity in his constituency, the lawmaker said he would not relent in his effort to speak against the unprovoked killings, banditry and kidnapping in his constituency.
“I am not boasting and I am not here to boast. I have done and still doing what it takes as the representative of my people in the red chamber to cause the Executive Arm of government to do the needful to stop the security challenges bedevilling my region and the country as a whole,” Senator Laah said.

Commenting on protest by some Nigerians who feel the government was not doing enough to address the existential problems in the country, Senator Laah said Nigerians have the constitutional right to speak their minds.
“Demonstration is to voice out their feelings, maybe the way they are been handled, the way things are happening in the whole country is not the best way it is supposed to be,” he said.
The Lawmaker also spoke on the efforts he is making to ensure that the executive arm of government adhere to the principles of Federal Character is enshrined by the Nigerian Constitution.
According to him the principles of the Federal Character has been violated in the area of appointment hence, he has to ensure that the trend is reversed in the spirit of justice and equity.
“It is not a day’s work and it can never be a day’s work,” the two-term serving Senator stated.
Democracy Day is a Public Holiday in Nigeria observed every 12th of June to commemorate the return to democratic government after years of military rule.
