The Deputy Speaker of Nigeria’s House of Representatives, Mr. Benjamin Kalu, has condemned the attack on the parish of the Christ Apostolic Church in Eruku, Kwara State, calling for the arrest of those responsible.
Mr. Kalu, in a statement, described the incident as painful, unacceptable, praying to God to comfort them, strengthen, and grant healing to all who are wounded physically and emotionally.
He called on security agencies to rise to the moment with urgency, apprehending the culprits of the attack and rescuing the abducted worshippers.
He commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who was billed to leave Nigeria on Wednesday for the 20th G20 Summit in South Africa and later Luanda to attend the 7th AU-EU Summit, for suspending the trip.
“I strongly condemn, in the strongest possible terms, the disturbing attack on a church in Kwara State. My heart goes out to the victims, the survivors, and every family now forced to carry the unbearable burden of loss. May God comfort them, strengthen, and grant healing to all who are wounded physically and emotionally.
“This unacceptable act of violence stands against the values of peace, unity, and mutual respect that our nation holds dear. I call on the security agencies to immediately conduct a thorough investigation, apprehend all those involved, and ensure justice is done,” the Deputy Speaker said.
The Christ Apostolic Church (CAC) in Eruku, Kwara State, was attacked by suspected bandits during a live-streamed service by worshippers, with three of the members confirmed killed and an unknown number kidnapped.
