Disaster Management: Agency Organises Maiden Inter School Quiz
The National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA, on Friday, organised a maiden inter school quiz competition among secondary school students in Kaduna State, North-West, Nigeria.
Speaking at the event on Friday, Imam Garki, the North-West Zonal Coordinator of the agency, said the event was organised to commemorate the 2023 International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction, IDDRR.
According to him, the competition aimed at building the capacity of the students on basic disaster risks management and early warning systems.
He explained that the maiden edition of the competition had participants from the three schools where Disaster Risk Reduction Clubs, DRRC.
”This quiz is to build their capacity on disaster reduction and risk management.
”The clubs will afford them the opportunity to learn and be conscious of risks around them,” he said.
Rakiya Ahmed, the principal of Queen Amina College, one of the participating schools, commended NEMA for the initiative, adding that the competition would impact positively on the activities of the students.
“My school has been a beneficiary of the initiative of the DRRC, and this competition is bringing the school to limelight in the area of disaster risk reduction.
”I am sure that some of the students will be encouraged by the initiative,” she said.
The prizes and medals were presented to the participants. Reports said.
