Prices of goods especially food and vegetables have soared as Nigerians mark Easter celebration.
In major cities across the country, perishable goods and transport services have reached a new high occassioned by increased demand due to the Easter celebration.
In the transit town of Lokoja, which links the North to the Southern part of the country, food items such as rice, beans, tomato have almost doubled in price.
A basket of tomato which cost 500 Naira in the last two weeks is now sold for N1500.
Also hitting the rooftop in prices, is yam. A major staple used to make popular delicacy of pounded yam that is especially used to mark festivals and ceremonies in the country, alongside rice.
Also, transprotation fees have risen, with commuters and travellers lamenting not just an increase in fares, but scarcity of transit vehicles.
Along the popular Ganaja road in Lokoja, Kogi State, north central Nigeria, which leads most commuters travelling to Eastern Nigeria, travellers are seen rushing to board taxis while others asked private vehicle drivers to car pool.
During Easter festivities, Nigerians take the opportunity to host events such as weddings as the public holiday gives them an opportunity to travel to their homes and meet with loved ones.
