The All Progressive Congress (APC) in Ebonyi State, Southeast Nigeria, has condemned in its entirety the ruling of Federal High Court sitting in Abuja, which sacked Governor David Umahi and his Deputy, Dr Kelechi Igwe as Governor and Deputy Governor of the State, respectively.

“The judgement which was delivered by Justice Inyang Ekwo was nothing but a breach of the Nigeria Constitution.”

The statement was released by the State APC Publicity Secretary, Mr Ogbuatu Simbad, in Abakaliki, the State Capital.

“No matter the backdoor approach, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) can never smell Government House, Ebonyi State. Abusing a court process to get a judgement whereas a court of same power has earlier passed and delivered judgement on same matter can never work.”

He said the Federal High Court in Ebonyi State, which has equal jurisdiction, had passed a judgment on Monday, February 28, sacking the application based on lacking merit. They further argued that there is no provision in the constitution on defection as the ground for the vacation or removal of a person as Governor or deputy governor.

“If not, the purpose of distraction, has PDP got any other thing to gain? Absolutely NO.

“Instead of wailing, they should appeal the earlier judgement has delivered on February 28, 2022, by Justice Henry Njoku of Abakaliki Federal High Court.

“It is no doubt that the rising profile of His Excellency, Engr Chief David Nweze Umahi is intimidating the PDP Ebonyi State. APC is Ebonyi and Ebonyi State is APC. We refuse to be distracted,” he added.

He called on all members and supporters of APC, Ebonyi State, to go about their regular business unperturbed as this distraction cannot see the light of day; thus, it is an abuse of the court process.
