The Independent National Electoral Commission INEC says it has expanded Polling Units (PUs) in Ebonyi State to 2,947 as against already existing 1,785 and has registered more voters across the Local Government Areas of the State.
The Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Dr Chukwuemeka Joseph Chukwu stated this during a stakeholders meeting in Abakaliki the State capital.
Dr Chukwu said the meeting was to inform the public on the successful records made on the course of expansion of the PUs and also to inform them on the level of the Commission’s readiness to implement the policy of the expansion in the State.
“The Commission has already trained Electoral Officers EOs and Assistant Electoral Officers AEOs on the modalities for the implementation. On the course of the training, participants were trained on capture PU coordinates, use of maps for identification of new PUs, Coding of new PUs, fieldwork exercise/ report and guidelines for expanding voter access to Polling Units”, Chukwu said.
He said the meeting was to formally inform the public about the conclusion of the exercise.
“Ebonyi now has increase of 1,162 which cut across all the 13 Local Government Areas of the State”, he said.
He therefore informed that INEC would commence its 2021 continuous Voters Registration CVR on June 28, 2021.
