The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Ebonyi State Southeast Nigeria says transparency would always be the yardstick in the conduct of its activities.
The New Resident Electoral Commissioner REC, Mr Chukwuemek Joseph Chukwu made this Known to Journalists during familiarisation visit in Abakaliki, the State capital
Mr Chukwuemek said one of the major responsibilities of INEC was to ensure conduct of free, fair and credible election.
“Election will be very open when the time comes for everybody to witness, our work also is to monitor campaigns of Political patties to ensure sanity in the system,” Chukwuemek said.
The REC advised people to see election as brotherly play.
“We should at all times avoid politics of rancor and acrimony, rather be peaceful in all political system,” Chukwuemek added.
On deregistration of some political parties, Mr Chukwuemek made it known that INEC will always go by the court rulings as it concerns the deregistration.
” Court said it’s only 13 political parties that are recognized today in Nigeria and that is what we are working with,” Chukwuemek said.
He called on the general public to be law abiding.
