The Ebonyi Women, under the auspices of the Labour Party Women Group in the State, has embarked on a campaign against trading Voters Identification Numbers (VIN) to politicians who go around shortchanging members of the public of their voter’s rights.

The wife of the Labour Party Governorship Candidate, Mrs. Mary Nkwegu, disclosed this while addressing journalists during the Sensitisation programme in Abakaliki the State capital.

Nkwegu, also the Leader of the Group, alleged she got reports from different parts of the State that some unscrupulous persons were moving from house to house, exchanging money for Voter Identification Numbers. She called on the Nigerian government and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to help curb the menace in the State. “These persons should be made to face the full weight of the law because once they collect such VIN from the Voter, it already disenfranchised them from voting,” she clarified.

The wife of the Senatorial Candidate for Ebonyi North Zone from the Labour Party, Onyinyechi Enigwe, condemned the acts along with Mrs. Chinelo Nwofoke, wife of State House of Assembly Candidate for Izzi west under the Labour Party who also called on people to be wise in protecting their votes. Moreso, the Leader of Abakaliki Local Government Area, Mrs. Ezego Agatha, compelled all Ebonyi people not to sell their votes to anyone; instead, she advised them to vote according to their consciences.
