The National Youth Service Corps NYSC in Ebonyi State South-East Nigeria has urged all the newly sworn-in corps members to cultivate the habit of hard work throughout their orientation course in the camp and thereafter.
The NYSC Director- General Professor Shuaibu Ibrahim, represented by the State Coordinator, Mrs Mercy Bamai Dawuda stated this in her address during the swearing-in ceremony of the 2021 Batch ‘B’ Stream II Orientation Course at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp, old MacGregor college Affikpo North Local Government Area of Ebonyi State.
Mrs Bamai said the whole exercise is going smoothly and orderly.
“I congratulate the new corps members for their successful completion of their academic programmes which, amongst other criteria, qualified them for enlistment as members of the service corps in the country” said Bamai.
She also said the course is a preparatory ground.
“The orientation course is meant to prepare the corps members physically and mentally for their expected contributions to the progress and development of the country as well as individual feats and post service years”.
The Coordinator noted that the corps members would be taking lessons on the four cardinal programmes of the NYSC, which are: general code of conduct, leadership coaching, paramilitary drills and other physical trainings as a well as sensitization on topical national issues.
Bamai commended the conduct of corps members since their arrival to the orientation camp.
“It is gratifying to note that you have demonstrated a commendable level of discipline and enthusiasm since your arrival in the camp.
“It is our ardent hope that you keep up your good conduct throughout the course.
“You must comply strictly with the camp rules and regulations, and be obedient to your corps officials.
“For avoidance of doubt, we shall apply sanctions on recalcitrant corps members in line with provisions of NYSC byline laws” She added.
She further urged the corps members to utilize the opportunities availed to them in the camp to better their futures, especially on how to become self-reliance.
The State Coordinator advised the corps members to ensure strict compliance to the COVID-19 protocols, security tips and relevant programmes which would be given to them during their orientation course.
She informed that the total number of the batch is 934, made up of 612 males and 322 females.
