Egypt has secured a $1.2 billion disbursement from the International Monetary Fund (IMF), marking the fourth tranche of its Extended Fund Facility (EFF) program, according to an announcement from the Egyptian cabinet this week.

This funding is part of an $8 billion, 46-month EFF package that was expanded in March 2024, building on the original $3 billion agreement approved in 2022. The latest disbursement follows the IMF Executive Board’s completion of the program’s fourth review on March 10, 2025.

In addition, the IMF Board approved Egypt’s request for support under the Resilience and Sustainability Facility (RSF), unlocking a further $1.3 billion to help the country strengthen its long-term economic sustainability and resilience.

Egypt has been pursuing a series of IMF-backed reforms to tackle economic challenges, including soaring inflation and a persistent foreign currency crunch. The newly released funds are expected to reinforce Egypt’s foreign reserves and drive its ongoing reform agenda forward.
