Eid Al-Adha: South-West Governors congratulate Muslims

South-West Governors has called on Nigerians to imbibe the spirit of selflessness, sacrifice, and patriotism in the quest to build a virile and economically viable country.

Ogun state Governor Dapo Abiodun, in his message in Abeokuta to mark this year’s Eid Al-Adha celebration, said that what Nigeria needed at this critical stage of its development were sacrifices, love, and unity.

According to the governor, the willingness of Abraham to sacrifice his son, Ishmael, as an act of obedience to God’s command was the greatest act of obeisance which all Nigerians must imbibe to ensure national unity and economic growth.

He said Nigeria entered a new era on May 29, with the swearing-in of a new government, led by President Bola Tinubu, adding that the new government was faced with critical issues of national importance.

“The significance of this celebration should not be lost on every Nigerian.

“The new government has introduced measures to launch the country on the development path.

“Some of these measures, including the withdrawal of fuel subsidy, which are meant to curb wastages, require the sacrifice and the cooperation of every citizen to make them work,” Abiodun said.

The governor reiterated the determination of his government to improve the well-being of the people of the state through various intervention programs.

Osun State

The Governor of Osun State, Senator Ademola Adeleke has congratulated Muslims and the entire citizens of the state on the occasion of this year’s Eid Al-Adha celebration.

In a statement signed by his spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, Governor Adeleke urged Muslims in the country and across the world to use the occasion to spread love through cheerful giving, identifying obedience as the key to unlocking the unending grace of Allah.

He also called on all Muslim faithful to have a renewed sense of sacrifice to the nation and brotherhood towards fellow Nigerians, stressing that the lesson inherent in the act of Prophet Ibrahim is the reward sequel to obedience and selflessness.

“I urge all Muslims to continue to live in peace and harmony with their fellow brothers while coexisting peacefully with people of other faiths,“ Adeleke said.

The Governor, who stressed the importance of harmony, enjoined citizens to tolerate one another and live peacefully, noting that development and progress are only possible in a peaceful environment.

Oyo State

Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has appreciated the people of the state for not falling for the antics and misinformation of overzealous politicians, which would have led to religious intolerance in the state.
The governor also assured the people of the state that his administration had kickstarted on a good note, saying more names of political appointees would be announced by the following week.

Governor Makinde gave the advice, on Wednesday, when government functionaries, political gladiators, and Muslim Ummah, led by the PDP National Deputy Chairman, Ambassador Taofeeq Arapaja, paid him Eid Al-Adha homage at his Ikolaba residence, Ibadan, after Eid prayers.
He recounted that some months ago, during the electioneering season, some politicians attempted to sow seeds of discord among the people through religion, but the people knew better and did not fall for the rumors.
Governor Makinde said: “They were trying to push Oyo State towards religious division but they did not succeed. In many families in Oyo State, there are both Muslims and Christians. Over the years, in these situations, it’s either you hear that some groups clashed at the Eid prayer ground or some people will avoid going to the Eid, just to avoid trouble. 
“But, today we have an Oyo State where there is that freedom that you can go anywhere, and we interact with one another. That is consistent with the dream of the Oyo State that we have. We can only be thankful to God for keeping us because who are we to say we deserve to be alive to celebrate Eid? the governor asked.”
He enjoined people in positions of authority, especially political office holders, to always remember that everything happens with the knowledge and approval of God.
Makinde noted: “If you are placed in any position, you must remember that the Almighty is over and above all of us. You can use your political position or influence to say you will do this and that, but you must know that it is God’s position that will prevail. 
“We thank God that we are alive and we are hale and healthy. So, I will say congratulations to all of us because many of us don’t even deserve to be alive.”
Speaking on his plans for constituting members of the cabinet, Makinde said his administration had started and would move fast by announcing more names of those who would work with him soon.
He stated: “We will move fast and by next week, those of you expecting the announcement of your appointment will start hearing. When people say Seyi Makinde achieved this and that, I will say without your contributions and support of the people, we wouldn’t have achieved anything. 
“We are in this together. Play your part and play your role and I’m sure we all will be better for it,” the governor concluded.
Speaking earlier, Ambassador Arapaja commended the governor for keeping his promises to the electorate which resulted in his second-term victory.
