Eid al-Fitr: Police warns against turning Praying Ground to political rally

The Kwara State Police command has warned against turning the Ilorin Eid praying ground to a venue of political campaign rally.

The State Commissioner of Police, Mohammed Bagega, gave the warning in a press statement issued by the command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Ajayi Okasanmi.

Bagega who congratulated Muslim faithful in the State for the successful conclusion of Ramadan fast assured the  people of a peaceful and hitch free Sallah celebration.

He added that adequate security arrangements have been emplaced across the length and breadth of the state, advising the people to go about their lawful businesses.

Bagega also enjoined Muslim faithful to enjoy their Eid al-Fitr holidays without any fear of molestation.

The police boss warned all would-be trouble makers of the determination of the Command to deal decisively with anybody found committing any act of criminality before, during and after the Sallah celebration.

He warned that information at his disposal to the effect that some subversive and disgruntled elements have perfected plans to disrupt the peace and Harmony in existence in the state using the Eid praying ground as a venue.

The command further warned that turning the Eid praying ground to a political rally would not be tolerated while anybody found in possession of any dangerous items like arms and ammunition  be treated as a criminal.

It also cautioned that no sachet water is allowed on the praying ground as adequate water has been provided for ablution while chanting of party slogan of any kind, praise singing of VIPs within the praying ground would also not be allowed.

The Police also advised  auto-mobile operators to respect the rights of other road users as all acts of irresponsibility would be met with stiff legal consequences. It appealed to members of the public to always inform the police of any suspicious acts within their environment using the following phone numbers; 08126275046 and 07032069501.

Meanwhile, no fewer than 5,350 security personnel from the Police,  Civil Defence Corps, FRSC and Vigilante group  would be deployed to various places to ensure hitch free Eid- Fitri celebration in the state.
