The Catholic Bishop of Awka Diocese, Anambra state, Most Reverend Paulinus Ezeokafor, has made a passionate appeal to the Nigerian electorate to avoid vote buying during next month’s general elections in the country.
Most Reverend Ezeokafor, who made the appeal in his New Year message, said it is time for the electorate to declare their stand on how to better the country.
The Bishop warned Nigerians against being influenced by money while calling on those who will be elected at the polls to ensure they study the needs and challenges facing the nation and bring lasting solutions to them.
He decried the poor governance in the country which has led to untold economic hardship, insecurity, and unemployment and added that there is a need for change to liberate the masses from literal bondage.
Most Reverend Ezeokafor asked those who are yet to collect their permanent voter’s card to go and collect it, as it is the only instrument to use to better the country.
The prelate expressed hope that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) will provide a level playing ground for all political parties.
He called on Nigerians to vote wisely and for candidates they know that will address the situation of the country.
He thanked God for the past year and the grace to enter into 2023 and said that the New Year calls for hard work, continuation of God’s love and bettering the lives of people around.
