The Sokoto State Network for Good Governance has endorsed the People’s Democratic Party’s (PDP) presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, and his running mate, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa.
Convener of the network, Comrade Faruk Gada, made the endorsement at a press briefing in Sokoto state, North-west Nigeria.
According to Gada, the decision was taken after a survey to ascertain the strength of the political parties in the state.
‘Having conducted a meticulous assessment of all major political parties who made themselves available for consideration in the forthcoming elections, we came to the conclusion that the only party that is undoubtedly ready to bring needed progress and development in this country is no other than the PDP.
‘We authoritatively gathered that as at the time of this briefing, the PDP wields 74% support base and chances of winning at the national level and in Sokoto state.
‘This position remains our focal point, which gives us the impetus to know that the PDP is winning the forthcoming elections with landslide victory,’ Gada noted.
He explained that with this development the network deemed it imperative to endorse the candidature of Alhaji Atiku Abubakar along with his running mate, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, based on in-depth analysis of the current situation of this country and their level of preparedness to confront the challenges.
‘Atiku and Okowa have a comprehensive picture of our situation and are adequately prepared to steer the Nigerian ship, which is currently ruffling around the political Bermuda Triangle.
‘As people of this country, we have no reason to close our eyes to vote for a candidate with a mentality of entitlement, which sees this country like a theater of shows, or rather a candidate whose record is not straight in the book of history.
‘It is the duty of all Nigerians to vote for Atiku and Okowa in order to rescue the nation from shackles of the gladiators.
‘The network uses this opportunity to remind the electorates that a vote for PDP is vote for reconstruction, rejuvenation, rescue and repositioning of the country and Sokoto state in particular,’ Gada added.
Similarly, the network also endorsed Malam Sai’du Umar Ubandoma as gubernatorial candidate and Sagir Bafarawa, his running mate, for the forthcoming governorship election in Sokoto state under the umbrella of the People’s Democratic Party.
‘We, the Sokoto network, after a careful study of the profile of all available candidates came to a sound conclusion that we have endorsed the candidature of the man along with his running mate, who is also a well trained financial expert and administrator with so much experience needed to provide sound leadership,’ Gada said.
