The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), through its Benin Region, has carried out a clearance exercise to remove structures encroaching on the Ihovbor–Ajaokuta 330kV Transmission Line in Ihovbor Community, Edo State, southern Nigeria.

TCN’s General Manager, Public Affairs, Ndidi Mbah, who disclosed this in Abuja, the nation’s capital, said the operation was part of efforts to protect critical power infrastructure and ensure uninterrupted electricity transmission.

Mrs Mbah explained that “the two-day exercise was aimed at reclaiming TCN’s Right of Way (ROW) along the transmission corridor.”

Prior to the operation, she noted that the company organised sensitisation programmes to educate residents on the dangers of building under high-voltage transmission lines.

Mrs Mbah further said that “TCN issued a three-month notice to the host community and paid compensation to affected individuals in line with established procedures.”

According to her, the clearance was carried out by a team from TCN’s Corporate Headquarters in Abuja, in collaboration with the Property Department.

“Traditional rulers, youth leaders, and other key stakeholders were fully informed before the commencement of the exercise, ensuring cooperation and peaceful implementation.

“The action was necessary to safeguard lives and property, prevent power disruptions, and preserve vital transmission assets linking Ihovbor and Ajaokuta,” she added.

The company reiterated its commitment to maintaining safe transmission corridors nationwide and urged communities to avoid activities that could compromise power infrastructure.
