The Kogi State Judicial panel of inquiry set up by the Human Rights Special Intervention Group (HRSIG) has held a public hearing to receive complaints arising from the EndSars protest.
The public hearing led by Mr. Ibrahim Alhassan of the Office of Public Defender and Citizens Right Commission (PDCRC) took place in Lokoja, Kogi State
Voice of Nigeria reports that six petitions bordering on human rights violations and brutality by the law enforcement agencies were received by the panel.
Mr. Alhassan noted that the committee had worked in collaboration with the media to encourage people to submit their petitions on all human rights violations and had since received petitions from the public.
He also added that the committee will continue to receive more complaints while the law enforcement agencies will also be given a chance to give their own account of events.
Speaking at the occasion chairman governing council of PDCRC Mr. Muizudeen Abdullahi in an interview with VON emphasized the importance of the public hearing “we are expecting those who have complained about police brutality, police molestation or security agents brutality to present their complaints to the commission, opportunities have been given to the security agencies. All the petitions have been sent to them to get their reaction. Our intention is that at the end the committee would have been able to come out with a position and refer back to the government of the state with a view to see how it can liaise with the security agencies”
Stakeholders present at the public hearing include OC legal Mrs. Musa Saidat, Deputy Commandant at NSCDC Mr. Adesina M.O, Mr. Idris Muraina, Charman Kogi State non-governmental organization network, vigilante personnel, FIDA and others.
