Enyimba Defeats Rangers, Claims Oriental Derby Bragging Rights

In a thrilling Oriental Derby on Match Day 15 of the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL), Enyimba FC beat the visiting Rangers International 2-1 on Sunday, at the Aba Township Stadium in Abia State.

Without a win in their previous three matches, Enyimba started brightly and opened the scoring when Chidera Michael struck in the 42nd minute.

The goal before halftime set the tone for an intense contest in the second half.

Enyimba continued to push forward and were eventually rewarded, when Stanley Dimgba doubled the advantage in the 81st minute. 2-0!!!

Rangers International scored a consolation goal in stoppage time through Kenechukwu Agu to keep things interesting. However the match finished 2-1 in favour of Enyimba to conclude a thrilling Oriental Derby.

It was Enyimba’s fifth win of the season and they find themselves mid-table with 20 points after 15 matches.

In Lagos, Chidera Oparaoche’s 69th-minute goal was enough for Ikorodu City to beat Abia Warriors 1-0 and move to the top of the NPFL table.

With 27 points, they lead the log on goal difference ahead of Nasarawa United, who lost 1-0 against Warri Wolves.
