Nigerian Winger, Chidiebere Nnachi, says grassroot players must be given the chance to prove themselves on the big stage.

Nnachi said this after he had his first taste of action in the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) playing for defending champions, Enyimba, in their 3-2 win over Akwa United on Sunday.

He put up a spectacular performance much to the delight of Aba fans.

Nnachi expressed delight after making a debut for the famous People’s Elephant.

It was a dream realised for the 18-year-old Nnachi, whose dazzling runs on the flanks was adjudged to have helped Enyimba secure their first win of the season

“It is one of my biggest achievements in life, as I finally made it to play for Enyimba. I was born and bred here in Aba, and have been coming to the stadium here to watch Enyimba play for years now, and immediately I got invited to the main team for trials, I told myself that I will do my best to be part of the team, and luckily I made it to the main team,” Nnachi said.

The Aba-raised talented player said French World Cup winner, Kylian Mbappe, is his idol.

Nnachi maintained that joining Enyimba from the streets of Aba, would  motivate other younger players in the city to believe in themselves that they too can enjoy a bright future.

“Aba is a blessed city filled with lots of great talents and we really do have very good footballers in the city.”

“If you go to all the football pitches in Aba, you will discover that these footballers are very good, but they don’t have sponsors that can help take their careers further.

“It’s always good to have some of the home grown players in the team and I believe that I am in Enyimba to contribute to the growth of the team.”
