The bearish trend dominated the equities market on Thursday as the market closed in the red with the all share index dropping by 0.01% or 4.08 points to close at 44,604.74 points compared with 44,608.82 recorded on Wednesday.

Similarly, the market capitalisation shed N2 billion to close the day at N24, 032 trillion as against N24, 034 trillion the previous day.

A total of 321.75 million shares worth N3.65 billion exchanged hands in 4,565 deals at the close of trading.

The market sentiment ended negative as it closed with 14 gainers relative to 15 losers.

Transcorp Nigeria led the gainers with N0.10k to close at N1.13k and it was followed by Consolidated Hallmark Insurance with N0.05k gain to close at N0.68k then Regency Alliance Insurance Company gained N0.03k to close at N0.45k.

Conversely, NEM Insurance Company led the losers table having lost N0.44k to close the day at N3.96k. It was followed by Custodian& Allied Plc which lost N0.75k to close at N7.15k and UAC of Nigeria lost N0.50k to close at N9.10k.

Transcorp was the toast of investors on Thursday as it recorded the highest volume of traded shares of 105 million.
