EU Report: There are no perfect elections – SDP National Chairman
Bitrus Kozah & Mercy Gana, Abuja
The National Chairman of the Social Democratic Party in Nigeria, SDP, Mr. Shehu Gabam has stated that there are no perfect elections anywhere in the world.
Mr Gabam made this known while reacting to the European Union Election Observation Mission, EU EOM Report on Nigeria’s 2023 General Election.
Speaking with Voice of Nigeria, Mr Gabam noted that the EU’s Election Observation Mission, EU EOM report “is a positive one and inevitably all of us agreed that the elections weren’t perfect.”
The SDP National Chairman also said that the elections weren’t entirely bad despite the shortfalls.
He further said that “the report should be for the good of the country and to also change the shortfalls that have been mentioned during the elections.”
While noting that the International Observers had done their jobs, Gabam, however, added that the country is not under any obligation to admit every recommendation by the foreign observers.
“It is one thing for you to have a report of what you have done, good or bad there is another thing to say that the report is accurate and for you to use the report to change the narrative on ground,” he stated.
