FA Cup: Harvey Elliott’s Strike Sends Liverpool Through

Liverpool progressed to the fourth round of the FA Cup after Harvey Elliott’s wonder strike secured a 1-0 victory against Wolverhampton Wanderers in their third replay, at the Molineux Stadium in England.

Jurgen Klopp made eight changes to the Liverpool side that lost 3-0 to Brighton & Hove Albion in the Premier League, as Cody Gakpo started in attack with Fabio Carvalho and Elliott supporting on the flanks. For Wolves, Raul Jimenez featured up-front while Adama Traore and Rayan Ait-Nouri were on the wings.

In the 13th minute, Liverpool midfielder Elliott ran forward and found himself with plenty of space as he fired a brilliant shot past Wolves goalkeeper Jose Sa to give his side the lead in the encounter.

The home side looked for a way back into the match in the first half, but Liverpool’s defence keep them out as the the scores remained 1-0 at halftime.

Wolves coach Julen Lopetegui made changes in the second half in search of an equaliser and Brazilian forward Matheus Cunha almost scored, but could not beat Liverpool goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher.

The match finished 1-0 in favour of Liverpool, earning their first victory of 2023 while recording a first clean sheet in eight matches.

The result sets up a thrilling fourth-round tie for Liverpool away to Brighton & Hove Albion in the FA Cup.
