FCT Permanent Secretary assures residents of affordable housing

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Permanent Secretary, Mr Olusade Adesola says the Administration has rolled out initiatives that will enable residents in Nigeria’s capital to own decent and affordable houses.

The Permanent Secretary disclosed this during the meeting with Sunrise Estate Development in Abuja, the nation’s capital

Mr Adesola further hinted that the Administration has taken practical steps that would ensure massive and affordable housing estates which will soon spring up in the capital city.

The Permanent Secretary said, among other numerous initiatives the FCT Administration has embarked upon to ensure that many low-income housing estates come on board are the popular FCT Land Swap Programme, which the Federal Executive Council (FEC) recently gave approval for resumption of full implementation.

He explained further that under the FCT Land Swap initiative, the private sectors and Nigerian citizens of all categories would have access to land encased in the essential urban infrastructure to build their homes.

Mr Adesola also urged Estate Developers to incorporate local contents in terms of the building materials which will be used for construction.

The FCT Permanent Secretary said such a move will ensure that owners of the various houses are spared from spending huge sums of money on maintenance.

He charged the FCT Department of Development Control to be alive to its responsibility by ensuring that all estate developers in the territory abide strictly on the approved development plan.

Earlier, the Executive Director of Sunrise Estate Development Limited, Mr Jack Farah revealed that construction work on Phase 2 of Sunrise Estate which is essentially mass housing will soon commence and will be completed within the next year.

Mr Farah who assured FCT residents that Phase 2 of the estate will address their housing needs, urged them to take advantage of the safe, scenic, high-quality construction standards and scrupulous codes offers by the estate.

The Sunrise Estate is sitting on a large expanse of land totalling over 600 hectares, Phase 1 of the Estate was completed in 2016.
