The Minister of the Nigerian Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Mr Nyesom Wike, has announced the rehabilitation of over 105 government Secondary schools across the six Area councils of Abuja.
The Minister gave the directive while flagging off the rehabilitation of the 15 Kilometers, Old Keffi Road from Kado Village to Dei-Dei in the Nigerian Capital City.
Wike explained that “the need to rehabilitate those schools was part of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda to revamp public infrastructure and improve access to quality education.”
He noted that “73 out of the 103 schools to be rehabilitated are in Abuja Municipal Area council, AMAC, while the remaining will be spread across other Area councils of the FCT.”

Wike said; “the massive investment in school renovation and road infrastructure demonstrates President Tinubu’s resolve to deliver on his promises to residents.”
According to him, out of the number of schools to be rehabilitated, 73 are currently under rehabilitation, while 33 more projects will soon be flagged off.
“Out of 105 ongoing projects, 73 are located within AMAC and the city. This administration is working hard to change things for the better both for Nigerians and the people of Abuja,” he said.
Wike stressed that the Old Keffi Road project was one of several major interventions approved by President Tinubu to ease traffic congestion, enhance connectivity, and promote economic activities across FCT communities.
He recalled that when the President assumed office in 2023, one of the emergency projects he approved was the rehabilitation of Saburi 1 and Saburi 2 roads, stressing that “the Old Keffi Road rehabilitation fulfills a promise made to residents and traders during the earlier project commissioning.”

“When we commissioned the Saburi Road, I said it could only be complete if this Old Keffi Road from Kado Village to Dei-Dei was also rehabilitated. Today, to the glory of God, we are here to fulfill that promise made by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu,” Wike said.
The Minister disclosed that the contractor handling the project, Lubrik Construction Company, which handled the Saburi project, has again been awarded the 15km Old Keffi Road rehabilitation due to the quality of their past work and their proven technical capacity.
Wike also commended the Chairman of Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), Hon. Christopher Zakka Maikalangu, for being a “true representative of his people” by consistently advocating for priority projects that meet the needs of residents.
“That is what true representation means choosing leaders who understand your needs and are committed to pursuing them.
“Maikalangu deserves your continued support for the sake of continuity”, he explained.
Furthermore, Wike said that the FCT Administration has lined up 27 projects to be flagged off across Abuja, emphasising that the projects are tangible evidence of the President’s commitment to development.

He directed the construction company to prioritise local content by employing youths, men, and women from host communities to enable them benefit economically during the project’s execution.
The FCT Minister of State, Dr Mariya Mahmoud applauded President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his continuous effort to enhance infrastructure and for prioritising projects that touch the lives of ordinary citizens.
Mahmoud stressed that the project was yet another testimony of Mr. President’s vision of delivering roads that promote connectivity, accessibility, and economic growth in the FCT.
While extending appreciation to FCT Minister, Barrister Nyesom Wike, for his purposeful leadership, she emphasised that the rehabilitation of the Old Keffi Road from Kado Village to Dei-Dei Junction is of immense significance.
According to her, “This road is a lifeline that serves thousands of commuters daily, linking communities, reducing travel time, improving road safety, and stimulating socio-economic activities across the axis.”
