The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has vowed that the ongoing sanitation and traffic control around satellite towns will be sustained to achieve the objectives of the government.
This was even as it warned residents who were bent on abusing the development regulations of the nation’s capital to desist from such acts, stating that the Department of Development Control won’t relent in demolishing illegal structures built anywhere.
Chairman, FCT Ministerial Committee on City Sanitation, Ikharo Attah stated that the ongoing City Sanitation exercise in satellite towns, has been authorised by the Minister, Malam Muhammad Bello to checkmate development activities and ensure that contraventions do not fester.
Attah who led a combined team of the task force in continuation of the exercise on Wednesday, stated that over 80 illegal shanties demolished at Gwarimpa were encouraging insecurity and criminalities within the neighbourhood.
He also said that the exercise at Nyanya was targeted at removing the partaker market and all obstruction and human activities to the road dualisation to ease traffic gridlock.
Clear all illegalities
Attah said the Minister had expressed displeasure over human activities that are responsible for the return of traffic gridlock on FCT roads, saying that the administration will do everything possible to clear all illegalities.
He said that the structures demolished at Angwan ndadi, a suburb of Nyanya was a total contraventions that shrank the street into a very narrow path, and it was committed by lawless residents.
According to him, FCTA is making enormous commitment towards the provision of infrastructures in Abuja, and would do everything within the law to protect sanity of the city.
Attah said, ” today we removed over 80 makeshift structures at Gwarimpa due to intensive security report and criminal activities around the area.
” We also removed the pantaker market at Nyanya that have been disturbing traffic, we also demolished three structures built on top of the roads and conscripted the road at Angwa ndadi. There have been complaints about the buildings since 2010, and every efforts towards removing it proved abortive, the were successfully removed.
Attah adds that the city is getting crowded everyday and people are coming in with many illegal activities which he the government will not allow.
