Nigeria’s Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Ahmed Musa Dangiwa has pledged renewed collaboration with the Association of Housing Corporations of Nigeria (AHCN) to deliver one million affordable homes nationwide.
Describing the AHCN as “a critical partner” in advancing national housing delivery, Dangiwa reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to leveraging institutional partnerships to meet President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
The Minister made the remarks during a courtesy visit by the newly elected leadership of AHCN to the ministry’s headquarters in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital.
“Since its formation in 1964, AHCN has been a cornerstone of public housing delivery in Nigeria.
“Today, we are pursuing the most ambitious housing programme in recent history. Our partnership with AHCN is key to unlocking serviced land, facilitating approvals, and ensuring housing projects reach Nigerians in every state,” Dangiwa said.
The Minister threw his support behind AHCN’s plan to use Nigeria-China bilateral trade financing to develop one million housing units, calling it a “bold, transformative initiative” aligned with the President’s mass housing vision.
As part of efforts to strengthen the sector, Dangiwa urged AHCN to undergo internal reforms, enhance transparency, and modernise its operations.
“To truly lead the charge in public housing development, AHCN must set a high bar for integrity and operate with full transparency to build confidence among Nigerians, investors, and development partners,” he said.
Dangiwa outlined three strategic actions for the Association:
Foster alignment among state housing corporations to reduce fragmentation and improve nationwide coordination.
Deepen research and policy advocacy for data-driven reforms at the state and federal levels.
Expand private sector and development finance partnerships to attract large-scale investment.
He also called for AHCN’s active participation in the forthcoming State-by-State Renewed Hope Homeownership and Housing Development Campaign, aimed at translating federal policies into local homeownership opportunities through citizen education and grassroots implementation.
Responding, AHCN President Esv. Eno I. Obongha praised the Minister’s efforts and pledged the Association’s support for the Renewed Hope Social Housing Estates Programme, which seeks to deliver 100 housing units in each of Nigeria’s 774 local government areas.
Reverend Dr. Ugochukwu Chime, newly introduced as AHCN’s Board of Trustees Chairman, lauded Dangiwa’s “transformative leadership,” stating that his reforms have “set Nigeria on a new path towards accessible, affordable, and sustainable housing for all.”
As a mark of recognition, Dangiwa was decorated as the Grand Patron of AHCN during the visit—an honour underscoring his contributions to Nigeria’s housing transformation.
The Minister expressed optimism that the renewed partnership—anchored on reforms, professionalism, and a shared national vision—would “unlock the full potential of state housing corporations and accelerate the drive towards delivering decent, affordable housing for all Nigerians.”
