FG unveils National Girls in ICT competition

The Federal Government, through the Ministry of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, has unveiled the National Girls in ICT Competition.

The initiative seeks to catalyze a transformative shift in the ICT landscape of Nigeria by establishing a robust platform exclusively dedicated to empowering girls in secondary schools.

This platform will serve as a springboard for them to showcase their remarkable skills, boundless creativity, and groundbreaking innovations across a wide range of ICT domains.

The nationwide application period for the competition will be open from January 22 to February 18, 2024.

The competition aims to narrow the gender gap in the industry, fostering equal opportunities for girls to engage and excel. Additionally, it aims to promote female participation in the ICT sector, empowering them to emerge as leaders in this dynamic field.

Announcing the initiative, the Ministry said, “As part of our commitment to promote gender inclusivity and inspire young girls to take the lead in the ICT sector, we are delighted to announce the start of the National Girls in ICT Competition.

“Our goal is to reduce the gender gap in the industry and provide equal opportunities for girls to actively participate and excel.”

The Ministry urged all young, aspiring minds to register at ngict.fmcide.gov.ng for the transformative competition, where girl empowerment meets technological excellence.

What to expect

The Ministry stated that participants will have opportunities to:

  1. Develop skills and hone their technical abilities in coding, programming, web development, cybersecurity, and data analytics.
  2. Gain Recognition and receive support from government agencies, educational institutions, and industry leaders.
  3. Network and learn by engaging in workshops, mentorship programs, and networking events to enhance your learning experience.

Register:

Sign up for the competition through the registration portal.

Form a Team:
Build a team and register with the support of your teachers.

Solve a Problem:
Identify a problem in your community and develop a tech-based solution.

Training Programs:
Participate in a 5-day training program across states to enhance your technical skills.

Regional Competitions:
Showcase your solution in regional competitions to qualify for the national stage.

Virtual Pitching:
Present your innovative solution in a virtual pitching competition evaluated by qualified judges.

Recognition and Rewards:
Receive certificates, prizes, and opportunities for further education and development.
