Film Corporation signs MoU with Statistics Bereau for investment opportunities

The Nigerian Film Corporation  and the National Bereau of Statistics have pledged to provide a comprehensive statistical data framework for the Nigerian film industry.

This will galvanise investment opportunities in the creative industry.

The agreement was reached in Abuja at the signing of memorandum of understanding MoU between the two Organisations, with the inauguration of a technical committee that will carry out the comprehensive statistical study and data analysis.

According to Director General Nigeria film corporation Dr. Chidia Maduekwe, when completed, the study “will add impetus to the Nigerian film industry statistical reckoning inline with the Economic Recovery and Growth Plan (ERGP) of the present administration.”

He said, “It will facilitate the planning and decision making process within the film industry; Enable the formulation of appropriate policies for the growth of the sector; Provide a guide on investment decision making for both domestic and foreign investors.

“ It will also encourage the active participation of banks and other financial institutions in financing film projects in the industry; Help to forecast returns on investment in the film industry; Researchers and the academia will have access to relevant data and information on the industry.

The corporation will be able to post reliable data on the film industry online, on the template of the NBS Statistical Master Plan (SMP) for national development.” Dr. Chidia listed.

He said,”vast opportunities exist in the film industry to accelerate the growth of Nigerian film creative economy and the NFC is more than ever ready to reposition the film industry for greater development.”

On his part, the Statistician General of the Federation Dr. Yemi Akale described the signing of the memorandum of understanding as a significant milestone in the promotion and stimulation of economic growth.

He said “the collaboration will generate policies and measures that will encourage further and investments when put in place to guarantee success for the film industry”

Dr. Akale urged the committee members to carry out the assignment with diligence for the good of Nigerians.
