Sokoto State Governor, Aminu Tambuwal says consultations are on to end the impasse between Governor’s and state Houses of Assembly, regarding financial autonomy, would soon be resolved.
He made the revelation in an interview with State House Correspondents, at the end of a meeting between the Chief of Staff to President Buhari, some State Governors and the leadership of the Conference of Speakers of State Legislatures.
He said: “We are here to meet the Chief of Staff on the instruction of Mr. President and you can see that the leadership of the Speakers Conference of the States of the Federation is here ably led by the Chairman. It’s all about Order 10 which has to do with the independence, financial autonomy of the legislature and the judiciary at the State level.
“So it’s a continuous meeting and we are going to meet next week Thursday when we hope to finalize on the framework and modalities of implementing the autonomy of the state legislature and the judiciary.
Tambuwal added that all State Governors are in support of Executive Order 10, that gives legal backing to the financial autonomy of State Legislatures and Judiciary.
“We are all in support of it by the grace of God,” he said.
Commenting on the national minimum wage, he stated that there are no issues regarding that because Governors are ready for an amicable resolution of the matter.
“Well our Chairman is in meeting with labour, I don’t want to preempt the outcome of the meeting. The team of Governors forum is meeting with the labour, I don’t want to preempt that meeting please.
“The business of Governors is to ensure that there is harmony in the country,” he stressed.
