Five Years: Bukola Ogunsola Reflects on ‘Something About the Briggs’ Journey

Nigerian filmmaker Bukola Ogunsola, during a press screening for her upcoming film set to debut on January 31, 2025, discussed the five-year journey it took to bring her ambitious vision to life.

“It consumed five years of my life,” Ogunsola said. “During that time, I couldn’t take on any other projects. The funding challenges alone were enough to make anyone give up.”

For Ogunsola, the challenge extended beyond securing funding—it was about preserving focus, nurturing creativity, and holding onto hope amidst countless setbacks.

Five years is a significant commitment, even for seasoned filmmakers. For Ogunsola, it meant sacrificing other opportunities, postponing personal goals, and dedicating all her energy to Something About the Briggs.
She revealed that securing funding was one of her biggest challenges.

“There were times I thought this film might never come to life,” she confessed. “But I believed in the story. I knew it was a story worth telling, no matter how long it took.”

Her perseverance is paying off. The film, already creating a buzz among industry insiders, is poised to be a standout addition to Nollywood’s 2025 lineup.
Though Ogunsola’s determination propelled the project, she wasn’t alone on the journey. At the screening, she took a moment to acknowledge her team, especially the film’s director of photography (DOP).

“KC wasn’t just the DP; he also took on the role of editor, and his help was invaluable,” Ogunsola shared.

“Such acts of selflessness are rare in an industry often constrained by tight budgets and even tighter timelines. Ogunsola’s deep gratitude was evident as she credited her team for helping her navigate the many challenges she faced.
As Ogunsola put it, “Every delay, every challenge—it’s all worth it now,” she concluded.

On January 31, audiences will finally experience the result of five years of hard work. And perhaps, like Ogunsola, they too will find that Something About the Briggs is worth the wait.
