The Emergency Management Agency, FEMA, in the Nigerian Federal Capital Territory Administration, FCTA, Abuaj, has again cautioned residents of the city against building on water channels and dumping of refuse in uncovered manholes.

In a statement signed by the Head, Public Affairs of the agency, Nkechi Isa and made available to Journalists in Abuja, the Director General of FEMA, Dr Abbas Idriss blamed blocked manholes for floods in some parts of the city.

The DG who frowned at the illegal disposal of waste by some residents, noted that such actions by a few individuals could impact the society negatively.

He said all hands must be on deck to ensure that no life is lost to flooding during the rainy season.

The FEMA Boss also emphasized the need for residents to own their environment by reporting to the appropriate authority anyone who builds or blocks the water channels.

While warning motorists on the need to be extra vigilant during heavy rainfalls, he called for the cleaning of drains to ensure the free flow of stormwater.

Dr Idriss also urged the residents to always use the 112 toll-free number in the event of an emergency.
