Nasarawa State Governor Abdullahi Sule has expressed optimism about the state’s rice production, with a harvest of 600,000 bags of rice recorded so far from a 1,650-hectare harvested farm out of a total farm size of 3,300 hectares.

This translates to about 50% of the farm still to be harvested, with projections indicating a total harvest of over 1,200,000 bags.

Speaking during a visit to the Jangwa/Agwatashi farm in the Awe and Obi local government areas, the governor revealed that the harvested rice is being transported to two mills, one in Abuja and another in Lokoja, as the state plans to launch its “Nasako” rice brand in Abuja after the milling process.

“We’ve harvested close to 600,000 bags so far, and we’re looking at about 50% of the total harvest. Since the beginning of the harvest, only about 50% of the total farm area has been cultivated; we’re expecting more. Once the remaining part is harvested, we’ll have a clearer picture. We’ve already started transporting the rice to our two mills, one in Abuja and one in Lokoja, in preparation for the launch of our Nasarawa brand, ‘Nasako’ rice”. The governor said.

Governor Sule expressed gratitude to God and the state’s partner, Silvex International, for their support in the rice production project.

He also outlined plans to continue land preparation, clearing, and planting after the harvest to maintain the production cycle.

The governor’s visit to the farm demonstrates the state’s commitment to agricultural development and food security.

“With the success of the rice production project, Nasarawa State is poised to increase its rice output and meet the needs of its citizens”, Gov. Sule added
