The Institute of Security Nigeria (ISN) has announced that leading security and diplomatic figures will gather in Lagos for a major conference to address Nigeria’s ongoing security challenges.
The 18th International Conference, with the theme “Expanding the Frontiers of Innovations in Security Enhancement and Nation-Building in Nigeria,” will hold from Saturday, 29th November at the Lagos Convention Centre.
The keynote address will be delivered by a former Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Tukur Yusuf Buratai (rtd.).
He will be joined by other distinguished figures, including Professor Ibrahim Gambari, Nigeria’s former Permanent Representative to the United Nations, and Major General Olu Bajowa (rtd.), a former Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Defence.
The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Lagos, Professor Folasade Ogunsola, is also listed as a speaker.
In a statement, the ISN Deputy President and Chief Executive Officer, Adebayo Akinade, said the conference aims to showcase practical innovations to strengthen national security while upholding democratic governance and human rights.
“Nigeria’s security renewal hinges on innovation, anchored in law, oversight, ethics, and human security,” Mr. Akinade stated.
He stressed the importance of a coordinated approach, adding, “Technology without governance is insufficient; governance without capacity is ineffective.
“Collaboration between federal, state, local governments, communities, and the private sector must be systematic, not episodic.”
According to the organisers, the forum will focus on sharing evidence-based policies and forging public-private partnerships for prevention, protection, response, and recovery.
The conference is expected to attract thousands of participants in-person and online, including senior officers from the Armed Forces, Police, the Department of State Services (DSS), civil servants, corporate security directors, academics, and media representatives.
