The former President of Nigeria, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan has appealed to the National Assembly to block off-season election in Nigeria, as he described it as not being the best practice.

He made the appeal at his home town Otuoke, in Ogbia Local Government Area of Bayelsa, Southern, Nigeria immediately after voting for the governor of his choice.

“This is is an off season election and I get worried about off-season elections and will use this opportunity to plead with the national Assembly to block it.

“This is not the best practice. The country can elect their people at the same time like the America that elect everybody at the same time.

“If we continue with this based on our laws, there will be a time the Nigerian presidential election will be off season.

“Nigeria should be worried, when I say Nigeria presidential election maybe off season, they may say how? It almost happened in 2007 when I was the running mate to late Yar’adua. Out of the seven Justices that presided over the case, three of them wanted the process to be anoiled, while four of them sustained it.

“If one of the Justices had agreed to the annulment, by now, the Nigerian election would have been off season.

He went further to congratulate, the three states of Bayelsa, Imo and Kogi, on the success of the conduct of the election.
