The former governor of Sokoto state, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, has appeared before the judicial Commission of inquiry constituted by his successor, governor Ahmed Aliyu.

The state commission of inquiry, led by Justice Mu’azu Abdulkadir Pindiga was instituted last year to investigate activities of the immediate past administration of Tambuwal.

Tambuwal, shortly after his appearance, said that as citizens of the country, no one is above the law of the land.

“We should realize that no one, no matter how highly placed, should be above the laws of the land. Most specifically, the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

“In leading the younger generation, we must instil in them utmost respect for the rule of law and constituted authorities.

“This, amongst other things, brings out the beauty in democracy,” he noted.

He added that his administration’s track records of integrity in public service speak for them always.

The former Governor wishes the commission the very best in its sittings.

In his remarks, the Counsel to Sokoto state government, Amanzi Amanzi, described the appearance of the former governor as surprising to the commission.

He said the commission just saw the governor unexpected without reaching an agreement for him to appear.

“There was an agreement by the commission to fix a date for him to appear and testify in respect of six memos that he was involved.

“Surprisingly, we just saw him this morning without reaching the agreement.”

Amanzi said because the commission wants to give him his regard being a former Governor, a date will be set for him to appear and testify in respect of all the memos that he was involved in.

The former Governor Tambuwal was accompanied by his legal team and some officials of his administration including the ex-Secretary to the State Government, Muhammad Mainasara Ahmad, ex-Chief of Staff Muktar Magori, ex-Attorney General and Commissioner of Justice, Barrister Dr. Sulaiman Usman, SAN, among others.
