The Wildan Care Foundation, a non-governmental organisation committed to promoting gender equality and empowering women, has emphasised the crucial role of women’s empowerment in unlocking societal potential and driving sustainable development.
Speaking as part of the International Women’s Day (IWD) 2025 celebrations in Gombe, the foundation’s Executive Director, Mrs. Zariyatu Abubakar, highlighted the importance of education, economic opportunities, and leadership in fostering progress in Nigeria.
She underscored that this year’s IWD theme, “Invest in Women: Accelerate Progress,” reflected a fundamental truth that empowering women is essential for development.
“As an organization dedicated to advancing the education and empowerment of women and girls, Wildan Care Foundation reaffirms its commitment to breaking barriers that hinder gender equality,” she stated.
Zariyatu stressed that despite progress, many women still face challenges such as limited access to quality education, economic marginalization, and systemic discrimination.

She therefore called on governments, businesses and civil society to collaborate in dismantling the obstacles and fostering a future where all women and girls can thrive.
Aligning with this year’s IWD theme, the Wildan Care Foundation said it was actively investing in programmes that support women’s education, vocational training and mentorship, whe recognizing that educating girls today will build a stronger future for the country.
She also urged stakeholders to:
- Prioritize education by ensuring girls, especially in underserved communities, have access to quality learning opportunities.
- Support women’s economic empowerment by facilitating access to capital, mentorship, and market opportunities for female entrepreneurs.
- Advocate against gender-based violence through stronger policies, awareness campaigns, and community engagement.
- Encourage women’s leadership in decision-making spaces, from politics to corporate boardrooms.
Zariyatu called for action beyond rhetoric, urging concrete investments in women’s empowerment.
She emphasized that sustainable progress was impossible without placing women at the centre of development, adding that a world where every girl has the opportunity to learn, lead, and succeed is a stronger and more prosperous one for all.
