Mats Hummel’s own goal was enough to give world champions, France a 1-0 victory over a struggling Germany side in their opening Euro 2020 Group F first match encounter on Tuesday night.

France took the lead in the 20th minute following a superb raking pass from the red devil’s midfielder Paul Pogba to Lucas Hernandez and later shanked to the back of the net by defender Hummels as he tried to clear.

Kylian Mbappe made series of outstanding runs that lead to Benzema’s goal but was ruled out for an offside and was later denied once again in what looked to be a certain penalty after out-sprinting Hummels to chase down a long ball in the 78th minute.

France’s Adrien Rabiot struck the outside of the post early in the second half and had a superb finish ruled out for offside, while Germany’s misfiring attack struggled to get shots on target as they vainly chased an equalizer.

The win puts France second in Group F behind holders Portugal, who beat Hungary 3-0 earlier on Tuesday.
