The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Anambra State Command, deployed 1,500 personnel, including special marshals, to manage traffic and enhance road safety across the state during the Easter holiday period.

In a statement released in Awka on Wednesday, SRC Margaret Onabe, FRSC Sector Public Education Officer for Anambra, said the deployment focused on major traffic points to prevent accidents and ensure smooth travel amid increased vehicular movement for Easter festivities.

“The FRSC is committed to ensuring the safety of all road users during this period

“We have strategically positioned towing trucks, patrol vehicles, motorbikes, and ambulances across key locations to respond promptly to emergencies and obstructions.” Onabe said.

The command noted that the Easter season typically experiences a surge in travel, which raises the risk of road accidents. Emergency response teams were placed on standby to provide immediate assistance, minimise delays, and ensure timely medical intervention where necessary.

Corps Commander Bridget Asekhauno, Sector Commander of the Anambra State Command, urged drivers to exercise caution, obey traffic regulations, and avoid behaviours that compromise road safety. She highlighted the importance of seat belt use, adherence to speed limits, and avoidance of vehicle overloading during the busy travel season.

“The command appeals to passengers to take responsibility for their safety by wearing seat belts, avoiding overloading, and reporting reckless driving to authorities

“Our goal is for everyone to enjoy a safe and joyous Easter. Let’s make this Easter memorable for celebrations, not accidents.” Asekhauno said.

The Corps Commander reminded road users of the FRSC toll-free number, 122, for emergency assistance and timely reporting of accidents or unsafe road conditions. She reiterated the corps’ commitment to public education, prompt rescue services, and the preservation of lives on Anambra State roads.

With Easter marking one of the busiest travel periods in Nigeria, the FRSC’s proactive measures aimed to reduce traffic congestion, prevent accidents, and ensure that families reached their destinations safely. Authorities called on motorists, passengers, and pedestrians to cooperate fully with traffic officers and observe road safety practices during the celebrations.
