Nigeria’s Information Technology and Shared Services provider, Galaxy Backbone Limited GBB, has called on businesses and young people in Nigeria to embrace innovation and the right policies to drive digital transformation.

The Managing Director Galaxy Backbone Limited, Professor Muhammed Bello Abubakar made the call at this year’s Information Communication Technology and Telecommunications Expo (ICTEL) in Lagos, South-west, Nigeria.

In a paper presentation, Entitled Tech Disrupt: Transforming Industries with Innovation” Professor Abubakar said embracing disruption was essential for progress, especially in the fast-paced technology industry.

“Business entities need to brace up for disruption as technology continues to shape the way businesses operate across the globe.

Failing to embrace disruption in today’s market can lead to being left behind while the world progresses towards more advanced and efficient technologies,” he said.

According to Professor Abubakar, to stay relevant, it is crucial to keep up with trends and seek ways to improve processes for the better.

He said the ICT and Telecommunications sector thrives on innovation as the lifeblood of its existence stressing that the sector is a key driver of any digital transformation.

From 5G networks to artificial intelligence and IoT, these technologies are at the forefront of reshaping industries across the globe hence leveraging the full potential of modern digital tools. Technological innovation is the driving force behind economic progress, as it introduces new technologies into production and consumption,” the GBB boss explained.

He stated that Young and agile companies are at the forefront of technological disruption, introducing ground-breaking solutions that challenge the status quo, noting that Nigeria has the advantage because of its young population

In Nigeria, the Managing Director explained that startups have also play a crucial role in driving innovation.

He said, “Startups are uniquely positioned to respond swiftly to changing market demands, and their willingness to take risks can lead to the creation of revolutionary products and services.

“As established players in the market, they have the experience and resources to leverage new technologies effectively. ICT startups and service providers operate in an environment where innovation is endogenous. This means that their ability to innovate is highly responsive to shifts in demand and supply conditions”.

The GBB boss said embracing technological innovation is not just a choice; it is a necessity for players in the industry to remain relevant and thrive in the fast-paced ICT industry.

Abubakar however stressed the need to understand that with this tremendous power comes great responsibility, that “as innovators and tech disruptors, we must remain committed to ethical practices, inclusivity, and sustainability

He advocated for global collaborative efforts towards harnessing the potentials of the Fourth Industrial Revolution.

Let us continue to forge meaningful partnerships, share knowledge, and nurture an ecosystem that thrives on continuous learning and growth.

“The road ahead is undoubtedly filled with challenges, but it is also laden with possibilities beyond our imagination. It is up to us, as visionaries of the digital era, to pave the way for a future that is transformative, equitable, and prosperous for all,” he added.
