Galaxy Backbone Limited (GBB), the Federal Government’s leading ICT infrastructure and shared services provider has officially announced its upcoming 20th-anniversary celebration scheduled for June 2026.

This was stated in a statement signed by the Agency’s Head of Media and Corporate Communications, Chidi Okpala.

According to him, the milestone marks two decades since the agency was established in 2006 with the ambitious mandate to unify the Federal Government’s fragmented ICT landscape into a secure, integrated national platform.

The announcement comes on the heels of a highly successful 2025 for the agency. Just last month, GBB was ranked first overall in the 2025 Federal Government Website Performance Scorecard, conducted by the Bureau of Public Service Reforms (BPSR).

Transparency in Nigeria

This ranking solidified GBB’s status as the gold standard for digital service delivery and transparency in Nigeria.

Reflecting on the agency’s journey, Managing Director and CEO, Professor Ibrahim Adepoju Adeyanju, noted that GBB’s impact has been felt most significantly in the transition to a paperless civil service.

“Our 20th anniversary is not just an organisational milestone; it is a celebration of Nigeria’s digital evolution.

We have moved from paper-based silos to a cloud-first, integrated government that serves its citizens with greater speed and transparency.

GBB’s 20-year track record includes several high-profile achievements that have placed Nigeria on the global ICT map:

The UN Public Service Award: Received for promoting a “whole-of-government” approach to digital transformation through the 1-GOV.net initiative.

National Connectivity

Successfully deploying high-speed fiber-optic infrastructure to enhance government-to-government (G2G) and government-to-business (G2B) interactions.

It played a pivotal role in the implementation of the IPPIS payroll system and supporting the digital economy during the global pandemic.

The grand celebration in June 2026 is expected to gather key stakeholders from the public and private sectors, global technology partners, and policymakers.

Strategic roadmap

Beyond the festivities, GBB intends to use the event to unveil its strategic roadmap for the next decade, with a heavy focus on cybersecurity resilience, AI integration in public service, and expanding rural connectivity.

As Nigeria continues its drive toward becoming a leading digital nation by 2030, Galaxy Backbone stands at the forefront, proving that 20 years of resilience and innovation are just the beginning of a smarter, more connected future.
