The Governor of Gombe State, Muhammadu Yahaya, has intensified his commitment to rural development by inspecting, commissioning, and laying the foundations of key infrastructure across Kwami and Dukku Local Government Areas.

The projects, spanning education, roads, markets, and traditional institutions, are designed to strengthen grassroots governance, stimulate local economies, and enhance the welfare of residents across the state.

Kwami: Roads, Education and Traditional Institutions

In Kwami Local Government Area, the Governor inspected the remodelled palace of the Senior District Head of Malam Sidi, a project aimed at preserving traditional institutions and strengthening their role in community leadership and conflict resolution.

He also toured the 28-kilometre Gadam–Yame–Kyari to Malam Sidi road, a strategic route linking Kwami West with Kwami and connecting several communities within the axis.

Governor Yahaya commissioned the Mega Non-Formal Learning Centre (Modern Tsangaya School) in Bojude as part of the state government’s efforts to reform and integrate the Tsangaya education system, while providing a more conducive learning environment for Almajiri pupils.

At the foundation-laying ceremony for the Kwami West Local Council Development Area Secretariat in Bojude, the Governor said the creation of LCDAs was intended to deepen grassroots governance and accelerate development.

He reiterated that the initiative was inspired by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who introduced and implemented the LCDA model during his tenure as Governor of Lagos.

Governor Yahaya expressed confidence that the successes recorded in Lagos would be replicated in Gombe State.

The Chairman of Kwami Local Government, Associate Professor Ahmed Wali Doho, commended the Governor for initiating people-centred projects, noting that interventions across key sectors would stimulate economic activity and promote sustainable development.

The Senior District Head of Kwami, Alhaji Aminu Haruna Abdullahi, also expressed appreciation for the remodelling of his palace and those of 11 other district heads, alongside other developmental projects across the area.

Dukku: Markets, Roads and Educational Expansion

The Governor later proceeded to Dukku Local Government Area, where he commissioned a modern integrated facility comprising a motor park, cattle market and grains market, named in his honour.

The complex is expected to boost commercial activities and provide critical support to farmers, traders and livestock dealers in Dukku and neighbouring communities.

Governor Yahaya also commissioned a Non-Formal Learning Centre (Modern Tsangaya School) in Dukku as part of his administration’s commitment to expanding access to education, particularly for Almajiri children, enabling them to receive both formal and Qur’anic education alongside vocational skills.

During the visit, the Governor inspected ongoing road projects, including the 32-kilometre Dukku–Zange road, which is expected to be completed within three months, as well as the Gombe–Abba to Kirfi road funded by the North East Development Commission.

At the various project sites, he gave residents assurances that his administration would continue to prioritise infrastructure supporting agriculture, commerce and connectivity to drive socio-economic growth.

While laying the foundation for the Dukku North LCDA Secretariat at Malala, Governor Yahaya emphasised that the establishment and development of LCDAs would strengthen governance structures and fast-track socio-economic progress in rural communities.

The Chairman of Dukku Local Government, Mr Adamu Muhammed Waziri, described the projects as timely and transformative interventions that would significantly improve livelihoods.

Also speaking, the Director-General of the Gombe State Joint Project Development Agency, Builder Mahmood Yusuf, said the projects aligned with the Governor’s vision of creating functional administrative and economic hubs to support long-term development.

The Emir of Dukku, His Royal Highness Haruna Abdulkadir Rasheed II, commended the state government for its continued support of the emirate, noting that the new market complex and other projects would stimulate socio-economic activity across the area.
