Gombe State: Governor Yahaya swears in 3 Judges

Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya of Gombe State has sworn in 3 Judges and 2 Khadis of the Sharia Court of Appeal of Gombe State.

The newly sworn-in judges are,  Justice Zainab Abdulkadir Rashid, Justice  Abdulsalam Mohammed and Justice Duarabu Suleiman Sikam, while the newly sworn-in Khadis are Khadi Ahmed Baba Bala and Khadi Adamu Kuna Jibin.

Governor Yahaya equally presented two laws authorizing the Independence of the Legislature and Judicial arms of Government in the State, saying the laws are measures for attaining autonomy and independence of the arms of government.

He said the appointment of the High Court Judges and Khadis of the Sharia Court of Appeal followed their confirmation by the National Judicial Council to further fill the gaps left behind by the retirement of judges who had reached the mandatory retirement age.

“The newly sworn-in Judges and Khadis are adjudged to be persons with experience, maturity forthrightness, moral rectitude and deep knowledge of jurisprudence and veritable jurist per excellence, I believe they immeasurable assets not only to the judiciary but to the entire State and the country as a whole,” Governor Yahaya said.

He said with the sound Educational background, dedication to duty and vast experience in their field of profession, they would bring new along their wealth of knowledge to help in strengthening the State Judiciary and consolidate the democratic system of the state and the nation as a whole.

Governor Yahaya his administration had since inception received a comprehensive report on the State Judiciary, so as to have adequate information on the challenges militating against the administration of Justice in State, so as to facilitate fair and speedy dispensation of Justice and the overall transformation of the Judiciary.

“It is against this background that our administration made the following intervention in the Judiciary; renovation and equipping of the High Court of Justice central Library as well as the establishment of an e-library at the State Ministry of Justice,” the Governor explained.

He said his administration had also intervened in the judiciary by constructing the Sharia Court of Appeal Complex, facilitating the establishment of the Gombe Division of the Court of Appeal and the provision of ICT equipment to State councils, among others.

The Gombe State Governor gave the assurances to the entire members of the Judiciary and the legislature, of his continued provision of all necessary facilities to enhance the effective discharge of their responsibilities, while pledging to ensure strong and harmonious relations between all arms of Government.

Governor Yahaya also presented Official Vehicles to the newly sworn-in Judges of the High Court and Khadis of the Sharia court of appeal in the state.

Expressing their gratitude to the State Government, newly sworn Justice Daurabu Suleiman Sikam said she had been on the Magisterial Bench for about fifteen years, but still needed God’s Grace to be able to do beyond what she had done as a magistrate.

“Gombe State Justice System is still striving, but with the appointments of new judges and the expectation that more judges will be appointed, we will have a speedy trial in Gombe State. The autonomy will increase the efficiency of the Judicial Officers in the state,” said Justice Sikam.

Also, for Khadi Ahmed Baba Bala of the Gombe State Sharia Court of Appeal, he is grateful to God for seeing the day, believing that the new calibre of judges and Khdis appointed into the Gombe State Judiciary, a new chapter had been opened.

“A new chapter has been opened for speedy dispensation of justice and to make the administration of justice easier. We intend to take up the challenge of bringing our wealth of experience. We are going to ensure the turn-around of the entire judicial system in Gombe State, with the view to ensuring justice for all. And it is no longer justice for the wealthy. It is justice for everybody, especially the commoner,” said Justice Baba-Bala.
